Shippers’ Council calls for resolution of legal, operational issues at Kaduna Dry Port

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Pius Akutah, has called for the prompt resolution of legal and operational issues at the Kaduna Dry Port.
Akutah made the call yesterday when he paid a maiden visit to the Kaduna Inland Dry Port to review its operations and address existing challenges where he explained that his visit was aimed at ensuring that the port effectively meets the needs of Nigerian shippers and to resolve any issues hindering its full potential.
However, he identified several minor but crucial challenges impacting the port’s efficiency, with a notable concern being the pending legal framework regarding liability.
He emphasised on the need to expedite legislative processes, saying there is need to fast-track that to overcome this obstacle.
The executive secretary highlighted the directives from the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy to resolve the issues promptly.
“We have a duty to ensure that the bill pending before the National Assembly is passed within record time,” he said.
He stressed the importance of collaboration with key stakeholders and regulatory bodies, including the Nigerian Customs Service to support the port’s optimal operation.
Fielding questions from newsmen, the Managing Director of the port, Mr Omotayo Dada, confirmed that the port was operational and ready to assist shippers.
Dada expressed satisfaction with the government’s and regulatory agencies’ support and shared confidence in the port’s capacity to expand its operations.
“The truth of the matter is that the port has the capacity to do much more than it is currently doing. With the support from the NSC and ongoing discussions, there is no doubt that many good things are on the horizon,” Dada said.
He assured that the port was well-equipped for business, boasting of facilities such as cold rooms and laboratories.
