Customs intercept smuggled petrol worth N18m in 7 days

Operation Whirlwind Taskforce Team of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it intercepted smuggled 804 kegs of premium motor spirit known as petrol in 25 litres each equivalent to 20, 100 liters worth N18 million in one week.
The Coordinator of the Operations Whirlwind, Husseini Ejibunnu, revealed this on Tuesday in Lagos while displaying some of the seized   petrol to journalists, said that the products were intercepted at different locations in Ogun State within the Zone A axis.
Giving details of the seizures, he said, that 50 kegs were intercepted at Ere River, Ado Odo in Ogun State on September 2, 2024, saying another 265 kegs were evacuated from a house in Imeko, Ogun state on September 3rd 2024.
According to him, 425 kegs were intercepted in a filling station in Idiroko on Wednesday 4th September, 2024 while 27 kegs were intercepted in a Mazda Car along Idiroko in Ogun state on September 6th.
He added that 37 kegs were intercepted in a bush path abandoned by smugglers in Idiroko on September 9, 2024 with the total duty paid value of N18 million.
He added that five means of conveyances were also intercepted in connection with the various seizures.
He said that the renewed vigour of the officers accounted for serious combing of flashpoints as provided by intelligence reports hence the aforementioned results.
Recall, on July 26, 2024, Operation Whirlwind showcased intercepted 31,740 litres of PMS valued at N25 million.
